Fall in Love with Jake and Ruby!
How Jake Freed The Nightingale
Jake transferred into Upton as a high school senior. His family home had burned, with his mother’s body inside. Arson. An investigation of complicated layers ensued, and Jake with his father moved in across the street. Ruby’s mother had her reasons for keeping Ruby in at night, but as gossip abounded her hold increased. Rumors aside, Ruby came to know Jake by the exemplary life she observed from across the street.
Jake, Ruby, and The Vintage Love Letters
Jake and Ruby are intrigued with a book of vintage love letters, particularly an affair between a twelfth century monk, Father Abelard, and his lover, a nun, Sister Abigail. For days they discuss the book passionately, both arguing, and finding humor. Spurred on by her mother’s not so hidden affairs, Ruby assures Jake that there had to be a ring before she’d ever sleep with him. Because of his own embarrassing past secret, Jake warms to both the logic and romance of a future promise of exclusiveness.
Little Red Riding Hood And Her Wolf
The wolves hung out by the cafeteria doors, watching every girl who might like to go to lunch. They nearly drooled, looking at us as if we were merely vessels of goodies. Lake was among them, but he wasn't like them, though he had a danger of his own.
